BEGINNER ALTO SAXOPHONE CLASS

Ages 8-12 (grades 3-7), Directed by Bill Rolfe

Fall 2026 Class:

  • Wednesdays, 4:15 – 5:15pm (1 hour)

  • September 16 – November 18 (10 weeks)

  • Cost: $150 

Description:

Ideal for students aged 8-12 (grades 3-7) who are interested in playing the alto saxophone. In an engaging group setting, youth will be introduced to the basics of alto saxophone, led by saxophone instructor, Bill Rolfe. This group class is an excellent opportunity for students to learn together, have fun, and work towards a final performance. The last class will include a short final performance where students will have the opportunity to perform with their group for family and friends.

Please note:

  • This is a beginner alto saxophone class. 

  • Participants will need to bring their own copy of Rubank Elementary Method for Saxophone instruction book, and provide their own instrument.

  • Students do not need to have any previous music lesson experience. 

  • Students will learn how to produce a sound, how to assemble and hold the instrument, as well as how to read music at the beginner level.

SAXOPHONE ENSEMBLE

Ages 9 to adult (RCM level 4 - 6), Directed by Bill Rolfe

Description:

  • RCM level 4 - 6, Ages 9 to adult

  • For both traditional and digital wind instruments 

  • For experienced saxophone players 

  • Friends, family, and community members are welcome to drop in and listen

This ensemble program offers a set of rehearsals that will primarily study classical saxophone trio and quartet repertoire. Participants will engage in structured rehearsals that discuss the issues and techniques involved in refined ensemble playing. These sessions will also work towards meaningful interpretations of the music rehearsed. The last rehearsal will end with a performance. We anticipate making a video recording of this performance for posting to social media and for the personal archives of the participants.
